Tough Grip Screw & Selling Your Luger For Parts

Hey Guys, I got 2 things that have been on my mind :

1. I got a tough grip screw and loose grip. The screw is hard to take off and sadly on the head of the screw where the "slit" is, it has been roughed up a bit from tightening/loosening. It is hard to take it off without the worry of denting the screw or grips. How to fix this problem?

2. I was thinking of selling my Luger for parts on ebay, what type of cash can each part get you (all but reciever and barrel). Well what type of parts you are probably asking... nothing special it is a bit of a parts gun anyway. commercial DWM with a byf toggle forced match (poor job... grinding is a bit ugly) with mostly 69 marked parts in good conditon. Let me know, and if you might be interested that would be great too

You can't list luger parts anymore on e bay. Place your listings on gunbroker. No problem with parts but don't beleive you can sell the receiver. With out inport papers.

Suggestion: Put Gunk brand "Liquid Wrench" on the screw and the screw thread area from inside the frame with the magazine removed. Tap it once or twice carefully with a plastic mallot and let it set for a while. Then remove the screw carefully using a hollow ground screw driver bit that fits the screw. Then clean the threads in the grip frame, and the screw. If the screw itself is damaged, replace it with a new screw. If you will put a tiny bit of gun oil on the screw before you put it back in, this may save your grief in the future.

Second suggestion: get some valve lapping compound, a gritty paste substance from the local auto parts store, and put it on the tip of the screwdriver for additional bite, after applying the penetrating oil.

for pistols the "frame" is the controlled part. The receiver with the barrel is legal to sell without any paperwork.

You could offer parts on ebay with a buy it now, and get some takers before they are booted off. But if you're going to do that, you might as well sell the parts here

previously I told folks to go to ebay and get a general feel for how much parts go for. gunbroker.com and auction arms has luger parts, but many on auction arms is sold by a guy who charges too much and there are rumors that he renumbers parts (enough rumors that I am not worried about any legal ramifications )

Now that is interesting, I always thought it was the receiver that was controlled. This is confusing because canadian gun laws tend to complicate things further. The barrel here must also be controlled. Just to make sure im not making mistakes... the reciever is attached to the barrel which encases the toggle train... right?

I will have to do reseach because I know the barrel must also be controlled here otherwise you could convert a restricted artillery luger into prohibited 4" barreled Luger. Canada has horrible guns laws...

No the barrel is not connected to the receiver in reality. The lower frame is the part needing a FFL, same on some rifles as in the AR15. The barrel is attached to a trunion or barrel lug/extension and is considered part of the barrel, not needing a FFL. It has been called a Receiver but it is not. Barrel Extension explains it all. By definition, the receiver is the part that contains the sear, so technically the luger "barrel extention" is the receiver. Some firms DO require an FFL or FCL to purchase EITHER the frame or the PO8 receiver. TH

The BATFE considers the lower grip frame the "receiver" on a Luger... but Lugerdoc is correct that some firms do treat either the grip or the barrel extension as the receiver in their dealings... but the BATFE are the folks that license the dealers so their definition holds a little more weight IMHO, even if they are WRONG.

Well it's hard to say if it's worth it.

Rougly what would you pay for mostly DWM commercial parts (everything but frame and barrel/reciever. Can someone give me a price range?

$200-$300

much depends on shape of the parts (reblued, original, etc).

I have sold parts on ebay previously and they sold ok, sometimes well, sometimes not. All depends on if folks need a particular number I think.

I think since you can't sell the frame here and don't want to sell the receiver / barrel that it is worth more together than as parts.

That said; you can look on gunbroker or other sites and see how much individual parts go for. the main problem is, once you start canibilizing (sp) your luger, to go back if onloy a few parts sell will be a pain and cost considerbly more to put back together.
