Why Do Different Models Seem To Have More Kick?
This year I fired 2 lugers for the first time! My first was an 08 shooter from George and also an artillery which I have come to know was reckless. One thing I noticed was the artillery seemed to have much more of a kick and seemed more powerful. Same round but much more powerful! Is there a difference? Maybe barrel length! I did screw up fireing my 1914 DWM artillery which was awesome~ Eric

Eric, beauty is in the eye of the beholder...and so is felt recoil.
In other words it may be puzzlingly subjective. Sure we can debate the dynamics of weight and a longer barrel, but there remains the element of subjectivity.

Yes, excellent point. I forgot varying spring rates as a factor for felt recoil. But, I keep forgetting if a higher spring rating means less felt recoil or more felt recoil.

Don, since you use the same frame for a P.08 and LP.08, I think the two springs would be pretty much the same. But with the 8" barrel, the round stays in the tube longer, thus imparting more oomph to the recoil. I also think someone has mentioned that the recoil is more noticeable when the stock is attached.

You are for sure correct about the longer bbl, but the key is the higher velocity- which gets "squared", thus increasing the recoil impulse- which is somewhat off set by the slightly heavier bbl. I do not agree about the stock- more weight = less felt recoil, it is just physics; of course if you put it on your shoulder, you would feel the recoil in a different way and place- maybe that is what they meant? Note that Eric said with "the same luger ammo"; implying all were in the same caliber(to me at least), but it matters not if all are 9mm or all are .30- the long barrel will shoot "farther" than the short bbl; all else being equal(like the angle at which fired). Before someone says some of those are 9mm and some .30- each form shown Could be in either caliber- but just likely did not come that way when made. The question is meaningless if different calibers are compared, as the premise of "the same ammo" is out the window!

I agree, Don. There's no way the actual recoil could be changed significantly. My experience in using a stock didn't show up an increase in "kick", but was indeed a different set of sensations than shooting the pistol in-hand.
