Default Not new just returning

Hello All,

I was on this forum years ago as SGT Getch and with the help of Frank (RIP) and Ed Tinker, got to know my 1936 S/42 #2511h.

Fast forward and I have gone from E5 to E8 and am moving fast towards a retirement date from the Army Reserve.

Now that I have time I am in the market for a new shooter, Franks was just a little too good and after Thor did a nice restraw job I let it go (foolishly) for better than double what I paid. I of course regretted it the moment it left my fingers.

I'm not a collector, the best lugers are beyond my range of wanting to spend and I would never not want to be scared to shoot the pistol.

I also still have not found my 1911 but one will come around when the time is right

Nice to be back!

Getch

Welcome back. You'll find your Luger shooter and if you want a shooter 1911, there are many very good quality clones being made in the Philippines and Turkey at great prices. If you must have an original GI 1911, they're around but quite a bit more expensive. In between are the Springfields, Kimbers and the like.

And of course, are you talking a 1911 or a 1911a1?
CMP will likely have a 3rd round of CMP 1911's, most of course are 1911a1's. I got a decent Remington Rand, a bit too 'parked' for me, but I still like it. It looks like the ones I carried in the army.

Welcome back!

Ed

Welcome back. I retired as a !SG in 1992 after 20 years of active duty.. There is life after. I'm new to this forum, but not to shooting. I currently have a 37 P08, a 15 LP08, a Red Nine C-96, and a Walther AC43. I never liked 9MM until I started picking up German nines.

Thank you all for the warm welcome!

For the 1911 it would likely be the A1 or even a nice post war piece again not collector grade but something I could shoot without fear. Like I carried early in my Army life

I am jealous of that C96 Deputywood, I have always coveted that particular pistol but I think one thing at a time is my speed. I also love the idea of a Roth or Hahn Steyr

This is a MAG question...does the suffix of the weapon necessarily have to match the magazine?

Case in point 1935 G date with a suffix of "a" under the serial number as displayed on the front of the frame under the barrel would that indicate proper mag of b90? Or could it be the 154, 211, or 63?

The suffix is part of the serial number and must be the same on the mag to be classed as matching.
