90 gr. Hornady in .30 Luger
Last month there was a request for information regarding loads for the .30 Luger using Hornady's 90 grain XTP/HP. At that time I had only used Acc#5 with that bullet, in this cartridge, and I experienced occasional failures to lock back the toggle on the last shot. Recently, I had the opportunity to try Red Dot with this bullet and received much better results. The load was: WW brass, WW small pistol primer, Hornady 90 gr. XTP/HP and 4.2 gr. (four point two grains) of Red Dot. The bullet was seated to give a cartridge overall length of 29 millimeters. Twenty-five rounds were fired using three different magazines and there were no failures to feed or to lock back the toggle on the last shot. This is very close to the maximum load of 4.3 gr. of Red Dot shown in the 44th Edition, Lyman Handbook.
