Gentlemen,

What is the serial number range of the A&F Lugers from the 1920's ?
What are the production #'s as to calibers and barrel lengths?

These are DWM Lugers made for the Swiss and brought into the US by A&F...? Were the barrels swapped out by A&F and replaced with a new barrel with their inscription...?

Does a serial # of 52xx i sound correct...?

Any info will be greatly appreciated...!!!

Joe,

According to Bobba these guns are found within the range of 2000i to 3500i. They are long-frame, grip-safety style guns. The guns were rebarrelled by the HÃ?Â¤mmerli firm in Switzerland with 4 3/4-inch, .30 barrels and roll-stamped with the "Abercrombie & Fitch" barrel legend. They were then imported by A&F. Conventional wisdom has it that this was all intnded as a deception to get around the Stoeger import monopoly of the Luger pistol.

There are questionable variations of the A&F marked pistols having to do with barrel length, caliber, barrel legend, and serial number.

The Abercrombie and Fitch on the barrel is pantographed.
The front of the frame, where the S#'s are, has been ground down by evidence of the receiver not lining up even with the frame as it should.
The most misaligned S#'s on the front of the frame I have ever seen. Original S#'s were stamped using a jig to align them.

I'm not an expert, just my opinion, based on things I've learned on this forum.

I think the barrel SN on the underside is supposed to run with the axis of the barrel, as well...

...Not to mention a grip safety on the A&F guns...
