Matching Police Luger and Holster
The few other police nerds like me may be interested in this. Simpson Ltd. has just posted an Alphabet DWM serial number 9781r marked S.D.IV.819. by the Schupo of Duisburg-Hamborn (http://www.simpsonltd.com/product_in...1753880eb39f69). This pistol was manufactured in 1928. It has two matching mags and a 1933 holster marked S.D.IV.35. While this holster may have been matched with this Luger at some point during WWII (or after), it was not its original holster. The marking S.D.IV.819. is recorded in Table 7-8 of HWIS on a holster that was originally designed for a 9-mm Dreyse and purchased by the Prussian Landgendarmerie. The Landgendarmerie canceled their order for Dreyses and many of these holsters were eventually converted for use with Lugers (HWIS Chapter 13). This holster apparently was the original holster for the Luger on Simpson's site. The holster info was obtained from the August 1992 issue of Auto Mag so it's not likely these two items can be remarried.
