Default Two S/42s. I know about the 1937.

Who can tell me what the mark is before the 1936?

So far NO ONE has been able to identify the mark before the serial number:

Anyone?

I have sent photo after photo for this 1936 P-08 S/42 Mauser and so far nobody knows its origin.

Anyone here to tell the story of the mark before the serial number on the left side of the frame?

I'll give you a thanks and thumbs up for telling me what happened to this 1936 S/42 Third Reich Mauser issued to soldiers.

he's a odd guy who would write 3 or 4 replies to himself and then get mad at no one replying in the next few minutes.

He can go to another forum and have fun.

I couldn't figure out how this guy couldn't figure out that his photos were inadequate for identifying tiny proof marks!

I'm no pro photog, but I like to think I know something about taking pictures of mysterious markings on pistols. I understood that if one wants a teensy little mark ID'd, one should take an actual close-up photo of the marking in question!

I still have some questions about my pistols I've posted photos of. I *have* gotten a lot of info from some of the world's foremost luger cognoscenti, and for that I am very grateful.

Very much enjoy this forum and the depth and breadth of experience here, and I am glad to be a member here.

Respectfully,
Jason

Thanks Ed! Don't really wanna thread hijack, but at this point is may not matter(?)

Main questions I have regarding the Simson I have concerns the meaning of the unit markings, in addition to the timing.

I understand that the Weimar-era Reichswehr had received a directive sometime in the 20's to stop unit-marking side arms.

My Simson was manufactured sometime in the 1928-1929 timeframe, and it seems likely was issued to a "trench mortar" outfit. Assuming I am interpreting the "M. W." (minenwerfer) mark correctly. I am a bit stumped when it comes to interpreting the rest of the unit marking. I am reasonably confident that the small "u." stands for "und" (and). In the context of "M.W./L.u.V.J.3, that makes sense. The "3" probably indicates that the pistol is "#3".

My main question regarding the HZA rework has to do with the unusual (to my eye) HzAjt18 Eagle and Swastika proof in the final firing proof (test proof?) location. In all my internet searching, I have never seen another photo of that marking, nor have I come across any reference to this particular stamping. I did come across a reference the Hza jt18 itself (thank you Dwight Gruber), but not in conjunction with a firing proof. My SWAG is that the proof was applied as the pistol was "recertified" as safe to fire...

Thanks again, and apologies for the attempted thread hi-jack. Please move as is necessary/appropriate.

I haven't been to "Luger University", as reference books are expensive. I do look forward to acquiring some in the near-ish future. For now, I must satisfy my thirst for luger knowledge by acquiring an "on-line associate's degree", if you will.
