Default New police P08 Luger

Hi all. New Luger guy. This is my first and I love it. I also posted it on the other Luger forum but just wanted to share hear also.

She was brought home by a GI and I was able to pick it up from a family member who inherited it.

1916 originally an artillery model which was then re-worked for police service in the Minden district? I think.

I think all matching except the mag and not sure about wood grips. Looks like a 78 or 73 (which would match serial)

Left grip does have the “chip”

Questions.

What would you rate the finish as? (Trying to get a feel for the % thing)
What value should I estimate for insurance? Not selling this one.
How much does a grip chip repair usually run and would it be worth it on this pistol?

A few more. Sorry about spelling typos. Can’t see an edit option.

Hello Doug and welcome to the forum. Looks like you have a nice collectible Luger.

The chip can be repaired. The skilled craftsman that has done this repair for me passed away last year. I believe that a couple of others have been mentioned on the forum, so take a good look.

Make sure to download our FAQ PDF. It's got quite a bit of reference material. Just follow the FAQ link at the top of each page.

My guess is that your grips are properly numbered "73" and were struck over deeply with the dies.

edit, lower right of the bottom of your posting - unless using a phone then it can be most anywhere, usually middle right or lower right....

Decent looking luger, I like them this way and up, used but not abused.

Percent of bluing is very subjective. I'll look closer, I would probably judge it a bit higher, but let me look after this meeting....

Doug is correct, this gun has been re barreled. It started life as an Artillery.

Thought it had the artillery sight/barrel due to the top receiver milled notch (to make room for the sight.)

An interesting "K" on the bottom of the lower just in front of the trigger guard.
