Default 1939 Mauser code 42

Am looking at above luger and would like opinions of value. It has been expertly reblued, numbers match, bore has frosting, accurate tho, very nice grips. Thank you

A refinished gun is, at best, a good looking shooter. I would guess about $1,000.00 to $1,200.00.

Major Tom.

This sure is not a collector grade Luger (reblued).

It does not sound like it even has a nice bore.

I would wait to find a nicer collector grade pistol myself.

At maximum I would offer $500.00.

The Mauser made Lugers are good shooters, so I'd estimate it at $900 in the USA if it's in generally good condition. This is a wild guess since we have no pictures and can't judge condition. If everything is original including the magazine I'd add another $100.

I own two re-blued Mauser shooters, one is good the other is expertly done. The good one cost about $950 and the expertly done one about $1,200. I really enjoy these pistols especially the nicer one, but I'm not sure I would make the same decision today as $1,200 is getting into the range of a collectible.

I see quality re-blued examples in the marketplace for up to $1,400 or even more for top quality. Most knowledgable collectors won't pay that much as they can get a fair to good collectible for that price.

But the fact is there people out there who do very high quality work, and there are other people who send them pistols to refinish, so there is a market for high quality re-blues and it is the cost of the pistol plus the cost of the re-blue. From inquiries I've made in the past, I estimate it works out to around $1,000 or so to acquire a suitable pistol and $400 and up for a quality re-blue. There was a beautiful '36 recently offered on the forums where the owner asked $1,700, my sense is that was about what he had into it but was having trouble getting that price. Hope this helps.

Major Tom,

Opinions vary, obviously, on reblued type, non collector Lugers.

Since it will be just a shooter anyway, you might consider buying one of the Mauser (Interarms) recreations from the 1970s. Here you would own a relatively new pistol that will have some appreciation value in its own right.

Just another option.

Respectfully,

Sieger
