Default wood box labeled P08

gents,

i found an wooden box labeled P08.
this little wooden box does not match any picture i can find within sturgees and görtz.

anyone who has infos for me
i think its an original military box, intended to protect and carry some delicate parts (zielkreis, optik, whatever), but no luger ....

this kind of box was two times topic of discussion in the "militaria fundforum", but with no result

regards from austria ....

I can only speculate. This could well have contained a layered (with trays of parts) field repair kit for field armorers; A few years ago, one of our members acquired a complete armorer's kit.

There are photos of a couple of these kits on this site:

Somewhere on the net - on individual boxes that held a P08 for usage by I think the equivalent of our maritime ships or on a navy ship. That it kept a firearm locked away.
I remember reading this, I think on Jan Still's forum, but not sure but specifically remember reading it.
I think possibly combined with the lugers that were in a holster and had a metal wire through the trigger guard and were 'sealed' with a lead (I think) 'lock'.

Ed's recollection is the same as mine...it may be a navy secured container for a Luger and holster (and maybe ammo also?).
Ron

P. S. Edit: It isn't exactly like the box I was thinking of. There are some detail photos, not the whole box, on page 135 of Jan Still's "Third Reich Lugers".

good evening

ron, ed, i checked to books from sturgees to görtz, i feel certain, this P08 marking is done trying to raise the value of an old little wood-box.

meanwhile i think in this box never a luger was carried, least of all with a holster
see the picture, i does not fit at all

nevertheless i try to find out what was carried in this box, maybe a howitzer optics, etc....
any ideas ??

regards from a windy day, here in austria

The only other "08" I come up with is the Maxim 08. Perhaps an optical sight for the Maxim?

wolfganggo ...
I think your are correct- the relation to a luger is the "P 08" stencil!

Here is what the Navy and/or transport air storage box looks like.
First an original box from an auction, next a repro box I made.
The holster for the pistol is the one we have seen with the small holes for a string with lead seal passed through and the box closure itself has provision for a wire and lead seal to show any opening.
