Question on take down lever- Updated with Photos

Take a look at this photo and tell me about this take down lever, It looks strange to me.

Its looks like the difference between a matching pistol or not.

looks like the serial was ground off with and electro pencil.

I think it is an East German replacement part...but I could be wrong.

It is owned by a friend of mine, and he sent me the photo. He said that thee is no import markings on the pistol, so I thought it was a little strange that the take down lever looks that way. I will get to see the luger in person on Tuesday. He said it is a 1941/ 1942 BYF Mauser. I first thught it might be a Russian Rework but the finish looks to be original.

the checkering pattern of the round knob part does not look like it is original.

I think it looks like home made part. The knob is too big anyway.

As Ron stated, this is a post WW2 East German made part, which is characteristic of many, but not all Vopo Lugers.

It looks like someone sheared off the original lever and used the lever part of an East German takedown to repair the original

The offset checkered button is the dead giveaway.

I thought that the checkered part of eastie levers were more squared than and not perfectly round as this one is?

As I look at this more closely I might have to agree with those that stated that it was a home made part, albeit a nicely done one.

I bought the Luger with the strange take down lever. Here are some more photos. It looks like a new part with the letters DGS stamped on it. It looks almost like a cast part that was not finished.

I bought it for a good price, and it is all matching except for the take down lever. It appears to be a 1941 byf Luger. It has 655 waffenamps. The bore is nice but the finish is a little rough on the left side.

How much would a replacement take down lever cost?

Here are some photos. Just have an update, I found the original take down lever in a plastic bag under the foam in the case. The problem is that it is broken. Can it be fixed?

Yes. Luger Doc or one of our restorers like Thor might take a crack at this.

Wow... someone had a thing for chewing up take down levers... If they only knew to pull back on the receiver first...

You might also be able to find a replacement from Tom - occasionally with the correct number (worth a "Want to Buy" ad here...).
