The glock model 22 and 23 are excellent handguns. You will notice more recoil with the 40 S&W than the 9mm, however is still manageable. The only thing is 9mm is cheaper to buy than 40 if you plan on doing alot of shooting. I am a factory armorer for the glock pistols and was never a big fan of them until then. Very well made, simple to work on, and with the right maintenance last a lifetime.

IMHO .40 caliber pistols are for LEOs only, as cops have access to plenty of this ammo for practice. A civilian who owns this caliber and does a lot of shooting will be coughing up big bucks for ammo unless he is into serious reloading.

All Glock pistols chambered in .40 S&W, 10mm, and .45 ACP are susceptible to Spontaneous Catastrophic Disassembly (TM) owing to their lack of full case support over the feed ramp.

Rommel,
What do you mean by `` a lot more gun `` ??

.40 Cal is not a caliber I consider to give a harsh recoil !! 4 inch Mdl 29 with heavy handloads is !!

Excellent as a self defense round, the 40 Cal has most of it's following in LE & Competitive shooting sports. I have done much testing comparisons of it & 9mm as LE weapons......Expect a little more spread ( 4-6 in ) between rounds in so-called double taps than what a good modern 9mm would give you........

If I had to pick one, my vote would go to the G23........

In conclusion, it's a good intermediate round between the 9 & the 45.....but doesnt replace both, at least in my book.....

Don't worry about the .40 S&W, if you are worried about recoil. I've let a lot of people try out my 10mm Auto Glock 20, and they are suprised at how mild the recoil is, especially after my telling them how powerful the 10mm Auto is compared to other ammo. I know I was worried when I first prepared myself to fire the first round. I was sure surprised, by how little the recoil felt. The .40 S&W should be even less, after all we 10mm Auto users refer to it as the .40 Short & Weak...
