C96 broomhandle ser.# help
Looked at a nice late c96 that is only serial numbered on the barrel by the breach #891770. No numbers on the bolt, but has crown proof, no numbers on back of hammer or on receiver. The pistol does not appear to have been refinished, but I found this odd, as I thought that all 96's were so marked in these areas. Would appreciate if someone can shed some light on this.

Hello,
Your SN gets this one on the line between the Early & Late 1930 Commercial Models range. Need to know the following: Barrel lenght ?? # of grips grooves ?? High polish bluing ?? Does it have Fire Blued parts or all the same bluing ?? Interesting...... MARK |

kidvett,
Thanks in advance for the reply. Barrel length 5+", trigger appeared to be fire blue, but not safety, rear sight or any other small parts. grips were 8 groove walnut. Bluing was not high polish. Hammer in the white. Just odd that it had no ser. #'s other than on the barrel breach. Mint bore in gun, but no signs of refinish or buffing over old pitted surface, with strong panel ledgend, which led me to think that the gun was correct, but I have very little experience with mod. 1930's. It looked like an honest 90+% gun to me. |

Billy,
12 grooves grips-correct for 1930 mdl. 5.2 or 5.5 bbl ?? Either all parts high polish blue or strawed trigger w/ bolt stop & safety fire blue on an early 1930 mdl. Late mdl is all high polish salt blued. Trigger unit ( incl hammer ) should be numbered, Repro parts added ? If you strip it, look for consistent wear on parts. Anu photos ?? MARK |
