Expert advice...P.08 Frame marking
Hi all,
I have noticed that some lugers seem to have P.08 marked on left frame. Some don't. Q: When did the Germans stop this practice? I have a 1940/42 and it is not marked. Thanks, Stan Julian

Stan,
* The P.08 marked frames began in the '41-42 code pistols. Don't have my notes handy; but, I think sometime in the "n" block. * All byf '41's & byf '42's came w/ the P.08 marked frames as I remember. * Your '40-42 code would have preceded this change. * Why? Don't have a documented answer; but, some say it was because of the P.38 coming into service as the German Army's new standard issue service pistol. Don't know how a P.08 frame would be mistaken for a P.38 frame; but, I wasn't there...so I didn't get a vote. * Hope this helps. Respectfully, Bob |
