I don't know if you have been to Seattle before but I am guessing that you haven't.... so here goes the Chamber of Commerce routine...... If you like big guns try the Boeing Air Museum. They recently added a Vintage War birds section. It is a premier flight museum, Mercury Capsules, Space Station Mock Up, Antique airliners, a 707 that was once the Presidential Plane (Air Force One), F-14, A-6, B-17 and many, many, many more. Also great Civil Aviation Aircraft. It is well worth the visit. Other nice to see places right downtown, (or very close) are the Pike Place Market and close by the art museum, symphony, and theatre. If Rock and Roll, Jazz and the like interest you then there is the Experience Music Project at the Seattle Center, by the Space Needle. It was built by Paul Allen of Microsoft fame. (The building takes some getting used to for most.) Their are also many other attractions in that general area. Just over the hill from the center is Lake Union. It is a busy working lake with boats, seaplanes, etc. The Center for Wooden boats is on the north end just over the hill from the Space Needle. A nice little museum and co-op for antique wooden boats, small sailboat rentals and such. Just a mile or so north of downtown are The Hiram Chittenden Locks, (Watch ships and boats come in from Pudget Sound to the Lake and see fish run the ladder in season) , on the way to the locks stop at Fishermen's Terminal Home port of the North Pacific Fishing Fleet (Where I work and which is a popular stop for tourist) or walk through Discovery Park which is just down the road from the locks. It used to be an Army Fort and is now a park. It has old officer row houses still used by Navy personnel, cliffs, a beach and a lighthouse. 580 acres, there is a visitor center where you can check out the park trails. (They held thousands of German and Italian POW's there during the war.) Take a ride back and forth on the Seattle to Bainbridge Ferry from the dock right downtown Seattle. The weather is beautiful right now and if it holds you would enjoy the ride and beautiful view especially at sunset. Take the Seattle to Bremerton ferry and a short distance from the ferry is the Naval Shipyard with a few old WWll ships on display for touring. (Call about the times on that, call the Pudget Sound Naval Shipyard.) I haven't been there since they took the Mighty Mo away, ( BB-63 USS Missouri). If you have a car drive up to the mountains and see Snoqualmie Falls. About 30 minutes east of Seattle, depending on traffic. It's a real pretty little falls, (edited from previous misreport ). Drive a a mile or two up the road from there to a couple of old logging towns with a number of nice old trains on display. Lots of mountains, beaches, volcanoes and scenery if you have the time and transportation. |

Bob,
Downtown on 1st. and I think Pine; there is a nice big outdoor shop with a large gun room. They are listed in the Yellow Pages. |

I think the shop he is talking about closed a year or so ago. It was next to the Federal Building. There is Stan Bakers gun shop out in Lake City he has some nice stuff on the walls. This may be to late for you to get. I'll send a private message. Hope it gets to you.

I haven't been thrilled at the gun shops in the seattle area. There is one, Butch's gun shop, on Aurora that has lots of guns, only one luger last time I was there. No great gun shops... Pike Place is a fun place to visit, down the hill from it is Ivers Acres of Clams, always good food, and if you care, the first Starbucks Coffee house is across from Pikes Place Market, always fun to have a coffee cup from them.

Some good info above, except the waterfalls thing, at 270 feet Snoqualmie falls a touch short of the tallest in the US, by around 2,000 feet.
Another fun thing to do is take the waterfront Trolly, goes from up near the train station along the waterfront, past the Aquarium, and several piers with some good places to eat. When up there a couple weeks ago with Tac, it was hard to get him and Ig away from it. It is also very close to the entry for Pikes Place market. The transit system is free in the downtown area, if you get into the transit tunnel you can cover a lot of area very quick, stops near the monorail and pioneer square make it an easy way to get around. Larry,
Thanks for the correction on the Geography. I had the same argument with my sister and drove up and showed her the sign. She laughed and walked away. Now I am wondering what it does say? I will check that sign next time I am up there!! My reading comprehension may be as bad as my depth perception. I made an edit to correct my over enthusiasm on the local attributes. I have been reluctant to post fearing I might embarass myself, well that's over! My sister loves Yosemite and her family goes there all the time. |

no worries, if you had an idea of the many screw ups i have made over the years you would think nothing of it.
