Reichbank PPk

Thought some of you might like to see this one. It is from an estate here in MA, the dealer gives me "dibbs" on WWII stuff that he receives. The Reichsbank gun is not a well known variation that appears in books on the subject and he thought it was just an early PPk.... not bad for $795 plus tax, eh?

Ron,

There are a few features that identify this as a Reichsbank gun.

The additional serial number on the slide and magazine were applied to help the inexperienced bank people in cleaning/dismantling the pistol. (as you know the serial number on a slide of a PPk is electric pencilled inside the slide hidden from view, this pistol actually has that serial number on it as well) The sights are painted red and yellow to make shooting easier.

Reichsbank guns were issued with two finger grip extension magazines, both numbered to the pistol. You will find numbered mags only on the police issue guns and they are mostly numbered on the mag body.

Some Reichsbank guns were put in a "readiness" box attached under the bank counter.

I wonder what prompted the painting of the sights. I wonder if some old duffer bankteller shot up some customers trying to aim through his bifocals.

I have a PPK Eagle N proof with 2 matching mags. SN is on mag spine. One is designated SN 12345A the otherSN 12345 B.

I should have said "mostly" on Police issue guns. Serial number 12345 .... Neat!
