A little confused about the tech. info at this web site..
What does the stamp, "S/42", on the toggle mechanism indicate?

Re: A little confused about the tech. info at this web site..
Ray, there are very few questions that I feel knowledgable enough to answer, but I think I know this one. During the second World War Germany coded all its suppliers and the S/42 was the code for Mauser.
Hope I'm at least close to right. BobL |

Right on the money BobL...but there is more.
The only thing left to be said is that S/42 is only one of the codes for the Mauser plant. The Germans kept changing them to confuse it's enemies into thinking there were more plants than there really were, or where certain war products were being produced.
42 and byf are also Mauser codes from the third reich. Never be afraid to jump in and voice your opinion on this site, that is what makes this site so much fun... the interactive aspect. I have studied Lugers for almost 40 years and not a week goes by that I don't learn something here I didn't know. Most of my studies were done years ago, and there is much more info available today that can contradict things that were believed back in the 50's and 60's. regards, John |

Bob, you are correct, but it was just one of the codes used by Mauser. Mauser also used 42 and byf.

Mauser also had the code "SVW" which came into play at the end of 1944 or early 1945.
