German Luger
Help!
I have a 7.65 German Luger with 4 proofs of a crown over N. It has DWM on the toggle. It has a thumb safety with the name Gesichert and above the trigger guard there is the number 4166 then Germany beneath and then a cursive o beneath that. The clip and the barrel has 1199 . Beneath the 1199 on the clip is a +. It has a 3" exposed barrel. Any help would be appreciated or the name of a good book for reference. Cutoirexe |

Ronald welcome to the forum!
You have a commerical made luger. DWM is the manufacturer, while the gesichert is the safety, means to fire. The 4166 o is the serial number. The four crown n's I'd like to see? Can we see pictures of all of it? Ed |

Ed,
I will send a picture hopefully tomorrow. One crown over N is under the barrel, one is on the chassis, one on the throttle, one on the clip. I would like to know what year it is an its value. Cutoirexe |

30 Luger aka as 7.65mm are worth less than a 9mm, but still worth anywhere from $350-$550, depending on condition, originality, etc.

GESICHERT means "safe"
You have what is known as a 1920 "alphabet" Commercial because of the small letter "o", which is considered part of the serial number (i.e. the serial number of your Luger is "4166 o"). Since the barrel is numbered 1199, your Luger is mis-matched and therefore is not considered as collectable as an all matching gun and is usually designated a "shooter" rather than "collectable". Having said that, any Luger is collectable to a greater or lesser degree and you are fortunate to have one. The value of your Luger is toward the lower end of the range that Ed stated.
