Default Date on HSc

How does one tell what year an HSc was made in? Is it stamped somewhere? Serial number? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Mauser records were destroyed after the war. Your best guide to the vintage of an Hsc is to determine the time-period of the proofs found upon it, if it is pre-war.

Crot, Without an definative production data available, you'll have to do some interpolation: Produced from 1940 until April 1945 in S/N range from 700,000 to about 960.000. TH

Serial number 799xxx with eagle over swastika with a letter L to the right of it on the bottom of the left side of the trigger gaurd. I understand that this means it was a nazi police issue? There is some kind of marking that I cant tell what it is supposed to be in the same place on the oppisite side of the trigger guard.
