1921 Commerical value estimate help ASAP
I'm know I'm asking for a very, very rough guess here, but a fellow is trying to trade me a luger. It's about 90%. All the numbers I can see match. He didn't have the magazine with him, but he "thinks" it's matching as well. It's a DWM dated 1921 in 30 Luger. It has a crown over N mark. The bore was shiny and pit free. Can you guys give me a rough idea of the value based on the mag matching as well as one if the mag turns out to be non matching? I just want a rough guesstimate in order to prevent being total screwed over. Thanks in advance.

Hi JTB..!
First - welcome to the Lugerforum!!! Second - the Luger he is trying to trade you is a commercial luger - which are fine collectors items. There are many collectors in this forum: http://forum.lugerforum.com/forumdis...s=&forumid=123 All of the value depends on "condition" - so, if you can post pictures, that would really help? As well, you need to take it apart and look at the small parts. If not, here is my rough guess (and I hope others add their experiences - as I collect another variation...). If it is all matching - probably about $1050 If it is all matched - 'cept for the mag - about $950 If it is NOT matched, or has replaced parts - about $600- $750.... This is based on a 90% commercial luger - including the strawed parts.... Anyway - those are my guesses And again - welcome to the Forum!!! John D. |

John,
Thanks for your help. What's supposed to be strawed besides the trigger? |

Hi policeluger and JTB!!!
JTB - Policeluger is exactly right.... From only the picture, both the take down and mag release button should be strawed (a yellowish color). Since your pic doesn't include the safety lever- I'm guessing that isn't strawed either? Anyway - after your pic (thank you for posting it - and again welcome!!! ) I'd probably categorized your Luger as a "shooter"... And as far as Lugers are concerned - any luger is worth keeping... Hope this does NOT discourage you - as we all started with our "first" luger..!! My best always, John D. |

John,
I haven't looked the gun over in person yet. I'm heading over to do that in the morning. I noticed the takedown lever looked blued. I'm assuming it's an old reblue of some kind then and will value you it down into shooter class. |

Hi JTB!!
No problem..! When you do see it - feel free to post back here and ask questions about what you saw before you "do the deal", OK? If the owner lets you snap some more pictures - all the better. based on the picture - yes, I'd probably put it in the shooter class - but, as a disclaimer - I've been known to be wrong outside my specialized collecting area (which this is not one ).... Our best to you! John |
