Default 1917 erfurt nazi era rebarrel?

hello, this is my 1st post...as well as my 1st luger..i have few p-38s,but finally stepped up to the plate....ahhem,..anyways...heres the question...i was at a local gun show and bought a 1917 erfurt, all matching numbers and correct proofs including the usual rc marks...matching numbers on the correct wood end ww1 era magazine as well....all except the barrel...the seller claimed it was a nazi era aresnal rebarrel..the barrel has a small waffenamp 655?...and a small "42" under the barrel near where it meets the frame...i liked the story, and possable history of the gun...the idea it saw service in both wars was cool, and the fact that the replaced barrel didnt have a full serial# from a diffrent gun made sense to me as an honest period rebarrel and not a post war parts change...anybody heard of these markings?....any feedback at all on this gun is much appriceated...i'm fully luger hooked now and look foward to my next find.....after doing more homework on this fine forum of course!...thank you.

welcome to the Lugerforum.

Although it is very possible that the story that came with your gun is true, there is no way to substantiate the story since the barrel could have been replaced anytime after the war as well as during the war.

The "42" was used by Mauser on spare parts as their wartime code, and the 655 is an appropriate inspector's mark... That said... we would love to see photos of your "new" Luger... the photo upload link is in the top right hand corner of all pages... follow the instructions... once uploaded you are presented witht he URL where the digital image sits on the server... copy that link and paste it into the "IMG" popup while making a post.

INk, As John mentioned above, I still have a few of these Armour's spare barrels in stock, so it's possible that your original shot out barrel may have been replaced recently, or by an armourer during WW2. Hard to tell for sure, other than by the quality of the job. TH

you have a rework...probably early nazi... the 42 is probably s/42...replacement barrel for erfurt lugers that were all cut for artillaty sights...iwould like to know if they were artillary lugers that were changed over to standard to meet the rc requirements in the 20's or the rearming in the 30's

And if you rebarreled an LP08 to a P08, what would you do about the missing rear sight?
