Adding a new receiver/barrel to a shooter
I have a mix&match P.08 that's functioned well over the 30 years I've had it and it still operates just fine today.
Many kind folks here were able to identify the major components, 1915-1918 DWM frame and DWM toggle assembly and a Mauser barrel/receiver dated 1938. Number wise it's a mess but the parts work great together and the pistol functions as well as any Luger I've seen. I have a 6" barrel that's in good shape and would like to add it to a DWM receiver so I can swap between the existing 4" barrel/receiver and the 6" barrel/receiver, in effect having two "shooters". If I have a good gunsmith put it together would that be safe - firing it with either top end? Any special fitting to the existing DWM breech block? Has anyone done this and how well did it turn out? Thanks for any opinions/warnings, etc. Bob |

I see no reason that you can't do it. But what do I know?
There are a couple of fellows here that can do that for you,if it can be done. I'm sure they will jump in with an answer soon.

Oops I forgot about long and short receivers! I bought the 6" barrel ages ago so hope it's for the short receiver since my P.08 has the short frame and receiver. Guess I need to find out how long the barrel threads are for each type of receiver before I pursue this further...
So I guess if my barrel works with the short receiver, I should be able to buy that type receiver, have the barrel installed (and ejector and front sight) and then interchange the 4" and 6" top sides. |
