Default 42 marked 1917

I just purchased my first luger. It's what I believe to be a Russian capture due to it being reblued and it has bakelite grips. Everything is matching but the barrel as it is an import gun out of Miami, Florida by RTB-Corp. On the side of gun opposite the serial number it has the German military receiver proof. Found on DWM Lugers 1914-1918. So the date of 1917 seems to match up to that marking. The weird thing is it has a 42 marking on the top of the Luger next to the toggle as well as the last 2 digits of the serial number on the same plate. If you all could help me out with this I'd appreciate it.

This is my first post and you all have a great forum running here. Looks like I now have another forum to cruise in my free time!

Thanks,

Rash

Rash, welcome to the forum. Most likely if the sn matches on the toggle is that a 42 (code name for mauser) was put onto your russian capture. These were many, many times matched, either with correct parts of forced matched.

But the code of 42 did not start until the nazi's were well in power, so obviously the imperial 1917 era did not know that was even coming.

Yea that is what I've been reading about them. I found out what i have is a VoPo Luger. What is the approximate value of the luger? I paid $480 for it. Did I get a pretty good deal?

480$ is a good price for a shooter in the US, a fair price in my corner of the world, but that's a different matter..
You did well Rash62ol, congratulations with it!
