Looking to buy my first Luger....
I'm planning on buying my first Luger after Christmas and I'd appreciate some input/advice. I'd prefer to buy a post WW2/newer one, and I'm considering buying a NIB/LNIB 9mm Interarms Mauser or a current production(?) stainless steel one from Orimar. Of the two, which would you'll consider more reliable and better built?
Aesthetically, I'd prefer one without the grip safety, and I've also read that the grip safety Lugers are not as comfortable to shoot, is this correct, and are they uncomfortable to shoot? However on the other hand, I'm also concerned that the stainless Lugers may not be of the same quality as the Interarms/Mauser Luger, and that I may have more difficulty seeing the stainless sights (w/my middle-aged eyes) in some light settings compared to the blued sights of the other, are these concerns valid? Of the two which would you'll recommend? Finally, can someone provide me with a link or contact info for Orimar, and an idea of how much they are asking for their stainless Lugers? Thanks. nero63 |

For what you will pay for a new Interarms Mauser, which I would prefer over the SS one, you can buy a nice original "shooter" Luger.

IMHO, you can find a "real" shooter grade Luger for less money that will not only work better (usually) but will have a better fit and finish.
Did I mention you can get one for less money?

We have a Classified Add section (WTB) here on the forum, and I would like to recommend you use it to get your first luger. Many others have done the same with good results and for the most part you will get a fair deal and a reliable gun that doesnâ??t need too much tweaking.
Getting your first luger is a big step and is always mixed with thoughts of shooting and making a good investment, not an easy decision â??good luck Vern |

Thanks to all for the helpful/informative replies.
I'm looking for a reliable shooter with a good finish and grips, rather than a collector Luger. My budget (after the holidays) for the Luger will be approximately $1500. I'm not concerned if the numbers match or not, or even if it's been refinished. I just want a 9mm Luger that will function reliably with factory FMJ ammo, has a good rust/pitting free bore, and that looks nice. I like the idea of being able to get a NIB/LNIB Interarms Mauser within my budget, but aesthetically I don't really like the straight front grip and grip safety on them. When ready to purchase, I'll keep my eye on this forum's classified section, GB, AA, GA, as well as some of the dealers listed on Pete's link. Again, thanks. Jerry |
