Luger Carbine 7.62 ammo - full box

Years ago I owned a beautiful Luger Carbine complete with stock. I had to sell it to pay for my wife's hospital and surgery and got thoroughly **nailed** in the process. I did manage to keep the full box of ammo that was part of the collection. I have no idea of rarity though I would guess that its pretty desirable. The headstamp is DWM with KK and 471.

Woops! Title wrong. Its 7.65 ammo. Sorry.

I would value your thoughts and comments.

Hard to say.... I would suspect it is pretty scarce stuff... but, it's alway a matter of how badly someone wants to sell, vs. how bad someone wants to buy?? Lot'sa carbine guys here.. throw a price on it and see what happens? You'll know pretty quick whether you are short or tall on it!

Hello Charlie,

I would have definitely been interested to buy the full box of 471A ammo off you, but the condition of the box falls short of the condition that I am seeking. I already have two full boxes of early DWM ammo for my Luger carbine set (as shown on my web site) with a blue and a green label, but I am still missing the orange label like the one that you have. It is a pity that the box is only in average condition, nonetheless, the cartridges are excellent.

Hey Ice... while you got that bad boy outt'a the box, throw a caliper on it and measure the overall length... Inquiring minds want to know! best to you, til....lat'r...GT BTW, I also really like the bullet shape... is there a mold available that casts that bullet shape for the handloader guys... ??

Hi Jerry... Let me know when you can stop by, I still want to cook that big'ol'steak for ya! I agree that there are some nice 9mm in that style.. but .30 cal might be a bit tougher to find.. I'm not aware of any current ones??... bet'cha Hugh know of some running around loose! A hollowpoint in that style would be even neater... best to all, til...,lat'r....GT

GT..You are a gracious and generous host and if I were not down here in Yuma stitching holsters 10 hours a day I would take you up on your offer!
.30...no, I can't think of any. One of the tricks for .30 I have employed in the past is to find .32 ammo I like and run it thru a sizer to .30. Works, even on copper jackets.
I come by PLINKER .30 pretty often, but I don't like the stepdown lead ogive to copper base. Works well enough though.
I need to work up a load powerful enough to work the action on my Luger Carbine...

Jerry & Rick, I have often thought about swaging bullets of the type... for exact copied shape, might just be the way to go... neat cartridiges though, I've always liked .30 Luger..had (or should i say my dad had) a .30 artillery... shot like a lazer... I couldn't believe a better gun could exsist... numbers did not match, (top & bottom) and grips were stag... never, ever malfunctioned... probably where my Luger love affair started.... pl, did the lever make it there? and is it acceptible..? Save a corner of you blue tank for me i got some stuff needs to be dunked! Best to all, til....lat'r....GT

GT, the COL is 1.150". I have never seen a lead bullet mold for the .30 Luger though many years ago a member of our club had a Corbin Swage die for making .30 Luger and Mauser bullets. He died and his wife wasted no time "getting rid of his junk." Sad.

Hi GT

I had assumed it to have a length of 1.15 (29.2mm) as per the correct length of the original DWM 9mm round as well. I bet you the flat point of the bullet is the same as the 9mm, too.

I have the original DWM drawing of the bullet if you would like a copy. Noel and I were going to have a mold made, but never found the time.

The grove diameter of the German 7.65 barrels is .311 to .312, so .308 to .309 bullets are really a bit to small for the bore.

Now for the good news!!

Yes, Lee has a T.C. bullet mold for a 32 acp in .311 in, I believe, 90 grain configuration. This diameter should work just fine as molded (don't forget to use a 32 caliber expander die, however).

Better yet, Hornady will sell you all of the .314 diameter, lead, T.C. bullets you want. These would still probably work fine, depending on the chamber tightness of the particular pistol involved.
