help identifying.....noob

Hey guys im new to this forum and this is my first post so bear w/ me. i was helping my mom the other day and we stumbled upon this gun in some of my grandfathers stuff. i know its a luger, and i know its chambered in 9mm, but thats about all i know. if you guys could help me get and idea of when this pistol was made and mabey what its worth that would be great!! thanks for your help.

What a find, 1900 American Eagle in .30 cal I believe....looks like some right grip damage...more detailed pictures would help give value, but about 5k+ would be my guess....very nice condition

Very nice, I am just starting to collect American eagles (a marketing ploy, had nothing to do with a gov't contract or anything by the way).

Looks like a very nice one!

I would about gurantee it is in 7.65mm and not 9mm; the tapered barrel and also that no standard production 1900's were made in 9mm.

1900's were made in the early 1900's and before about 1910 time frame I believe.

Keep me in mind if looking to sell or trade it (but nothing close to 5k, I have not seen them actually sell for anything near that). Folks like 1900's, but they have a finite market of people wanting them. simpson's LTD has them from $1200 - $4500 and they are excellent refereneces for prices, as high end retail, take off from 25-40% for you trying to sell usually.

Does not look like vice damage, looks like it was cut away, for what ever reason.....7.65 mm is 30 cal.......

The grip cutaway looks like it may have contained a presentation or dedication plaque at one time. See if you find a plaque that may have fit in that area among your Grandfather's things.

Your M1900AE is too early to be in the range of the US test guns. Finish is rough, but if all matching parts, in serviceable condition, should retail in the $1500 to $2500 range. TH

It looks like the serial number is 9561, which would make it later than the US test guns. The indentation in the right grip looks like it was crushed rather than cut in...very odd. Also, the catch on the frame for the toggle lock has worked loose and has moved partially out of its slot. It could come out completely and be lost. It should be secured with Locktite or silver solder...for goodness sakes do not let anyone use a pin punch to stake it into place! I have seen that done and it looks awful. I think Lugerdoc's price estimation is pretty much on target and probably toward the middle of that range.

XJ....reference Simpsons item D7524 for 8k, I know your grip issue and it is no small item, and the toggle lock, but if Simpson's think they can get 8k for thiers.....well the field of pricing is wide open......and I fail to see where "finish is rough"....this is a beautiful gun....do not let it got to easy, hope this helps.

D-10 is an early Commercial with a Type 1 safety, pretty scarce and in nice shape. 1900 Commercials are much more difficult to find than American Eagles or Swiss. Still, $8K is a tad high IMO. I picked up a 1900 Commercial not too long ago with a bit lower serial number and a little less condition, maybe 95%, for $3000. Not a bad buy but a lot closer to ballpark than $8K.
