The "new Krieghoff"
“New Krieghoff”
An article by Jim Dickson in the “manMAGNUM” February 2010 about Krieghoff starting in 2006 to make the Luger P-08 again. Limited edition (only 200) hand made by Frank Kaltenpoth. Says in the article they sell for just below $20 000 Quite an interesting article. I can try to scan it if anyone is interested. Piet |

I wil try to attach it here, but I think it is too big (3mb) - it does not work. I will try tomorrow to scan at lower intensity and one page at a time. Piet |

Interested as well.
In youtube video "Tales of the Gun: Luger 5/5", Michael Krause claimed cost of milling a high quality Luger out was $15K at production volume of 100 guns. Youtube video was not very high quality, I did not hear clearly he said "fifteen thousand", or "fifty thousand", I assume it's the former. |

Piet,
Very interesting and somewhat disturbing. I've had contact with the company and they chose not to disclose some information mentioned in the South-African article. I wrote to my contact there, let's see if they will come up with an answer. It looks like the 'Special Projects Department' of Krieghoff is another phrase for 'Using a Subcontractor' (which we already suspected, really). |

If I had 20 Grand I didn't need I would buy a real Krieghoff. I would like to closely inspect one of the new ones but how would one do that?
Has any of the gun Magazines ever done a shooter test on a new Krieghoff? That would be interesting! Jerry Burney

My contact at Krieghoff denied the involvement of the gun company mentioned in the article. This is getting most interesting.
Jerry, IIRC a German gun magazine did a shooting test with one of the prototype guns when they first appeared. Apart from the hefty price tag, I still think Krieghoff deserves credit for kicking the Parabellum design into the 21st century. This enables us to say that the pistol we all love has been in production on and off for over 100 years! If I had the budget, there would be one of these in my safe, no doubt about it, but then again I'm a sucker for post war stuff |

post war Krieg
Hi Gerben, I would love to have any Krieghoff, old or new, but I question their $15,000.00 to $20,000.00 price tag.... I think that their cost would be less then a third of that number, if even that..... Gotta factor in $100.00 dollars an hour engineers and machinest to be fair........ best to all, til...lat'r...GT

Considering that it is a handmade or at least a hand finished gun (the article talks about master gunsmith Frank Kaltenpoth finishing each individual gun with hand files etc.) in much the same fashion that Mike Krause handmakes his $15,000 .45 Luger, the price seems a little more in line...but still waaay to expensive for anyone but those with real deep pockets.

Vlim, Is that published on line that you know of? I would like to read that! I know what Krieghoff did was a great accomplishment..but in the grand scheme of things it was of little import as well. No common Luger nut can afford one. If they had gotten them down to $5000 even..... then it might have been exciting. Owning one might have been possible. With the availability of VERY nice Lugers still within economic reason I will buy an original. You will only have millionairs that can afford a New Krieghoff. Perhaps thats as it should be...who can say? I have a beat up 1937 Krieghoff I think I have $1000 in so far and it has history written all over it. The stampings are fascinating and I know when and where it's been, a part of military history. Frankly I would find it much more interesting in the long run than a New one. New Krieghoffs are an investment strategy and status symbol of the wealthy..I doubt many will even be shot by their owners. I am happy Krieghoff made them but they are of little importance to me.
