Default Follow-on to "Noob with first Luger"

Re: Erfurt 1916 - all matching in 95%ish condition...

Bought a couple books:

The P-08 Parabellum Luger Automatic Pistol
by David J. McFarland

Luger P'08 Pistol, 9mm Assembly, Disassembly Manual Luger P'08 Pistol, 9mm Assembly, Disassembly Manual
by Skennerton

Also downloaded Mitchell's Mausers P-08 manual.

The books and manual seem to be about the same - interesting though. I thought it was interesting that field strip was not mandatory after shooting. Just an "assembled" cleaning. Field strip if really dirty. The grease thing kinda got me though. I'm thinking CLP only. You guys do the assembled clean too?

My intention is to use this as a shooter. Maybe 200 or so standard ball rounds a year - not much. Before that I will have good smith check it out in detail and change out the springs, keeping the old ones. Will buy a couple Mec-Gar mags so as not to use the original numbered ones.

Is a cheap repro takedown tool sufficient?

Seems like Luger Doc is the go to guy for parts!

Anyhow, that's all I can think of right now. Thanks for whatever advice you can give me!

Welcome!!!

I don't have any advice...Haven't been in SoCal in 40 years, so I can't help you with a smith...I use LSA on all my weapons, so I can't help you with lube...I have no idea what a takedown tool is...(maybe the mag helper tool?)...so I can't help you with that...I've gotten parts from Lugerdoc, Numrich, and SARCO, so I can't help you there...I field strip & remove cannon & subassemblies to clean; can't help you there...

I'm no help to you at all...

How about some pics of the pistol???

The mag loading tool is kind of worthless. You'll do fine without it unless you're trying to get a complete display of gun, holster, tool, etc.

Actually if you don't have fingers with the strength of the Hulk, you need a mag loading tool. That mag spring is strong and the loading button is small and flat. You won't need the tool for takedown, only for mag loading.

Default Newbe needs help

Hello I am a newbe at this. I Purchased a commercial Luger with custom bone type grips and custom holster. Using your site so far I have these marks on this pistol. Proof 2 number 15. Proof 2 number 19 and suffix K under 6935 under the barrel. Says made in Germany with corresponding numbers 35 on parts other than one with 91. Also has the scroll which you show on several photos on top of pistol. the holster is hand tooled with long horn steer and lined manufactured by Heiser Denver. So am I dating this correctly around 1916. My 2nd problem is when I try to **** to fire the latch on the side works it's way loose. I will not be loading it until I get some answers. If any one can help please reply. NO one here in Placerville CA knows how to fix this problem. Thanks Betty

Hello, I have tried to load photos but my dial up pc is not working properly. Can I make up a photo disc and send thru snail mail? I bought this commercial Luger to shoot, which it will not do. Anyway I will stay in the back ground and read threads. If snail mail is ok I need where to send disc to. Thanks,Betty
