Show & Tell
I'm taking my 41 byf (shooter) to a "group shoot".
I'm allways suprised by the number of people that haven't shot/held a luger. I'm sure that there will be people who want to shoot it. No one going to "machine gun" it (standing right there), but what do you think a "safe" number of rounds (total-one day) that can be shot-w/o damage? I've shot about 200 rounds thur it; yes, I "machine gun" it. Never had a problem, but also not looking f/ one. What's the most(#) you have sent thur a luger at one time? I know this is a different question, but I would hate to do damage to my baby. Only quality 9mm being used/ I don't think I'll give full mags. Any advice/opinions would be appericated. capkid (sorry about spelling) |

Re: Show & Tell
Usually a mag load of 3 to 5 rounds will satisfy the first time PO8 shooter and often avoids some jamming problems. Your on the right track using only quality ammo, as a steady diet of cheap reloads or hot machine gun ammo, can cause problems. The only ammo that you never want to use, is some of the late WW2 steel jacketed SMG stuff, as it will wear down the rifling very quickly. Tom h

Re: Show & Tell
Tom is right about the loads.
For me, I usually shoot a box through them, sometimes two boxes, but that is probably shared. Mine aren't collector pieces and I like to shoot mine, but if they were collector pieces, I would be a bit leery. Still, they were made as guns to shoot. BUT, there have been several cases in the last couple of months of collector pieces being damaged by firing them... So, I don't think it matters much if you fire one round or 300, a pistol won't get near as hot as a M-60 (machine gun), yes it'll get warm, but unless you have a huge supply of magazines and pop them in one at a time, ala the US pistol trials... Re: Show & Tell
How much is too much? I have a competition 1911 that had over 55 000 rounds of hot, jacketed 30 super through it before I had to change the barrel. I believe that the most important aspect is the difference in the quality of steel being used in the early 1900's vs today. We'll sewe what comments this brings.
