Good question with no readily available answer.

Mauser did change the barrel design after 1972, so there is a good chance that guns with the P08 style front sight made it to the USA. The problem is that the .30 luger version was not a huge seller, neither in the US nor in Europe, so Mauser had a lot of guns in storage which lasted for quite a while.

Interarms did market both the 9 and 7.65mm 6" barrel in both the PO8 and the Swiss type frame. Probably more to the point of your question, ALL of the postwar Mauser Parabellums have a "Long" reciever, so that the barrels have a 1/8" longer threaded area than the standard PO8, so that these barrels are not interchangable. dfm - can you provide more detail for your definition of a non-swiss MP interarms import type barrel is - ie the threaded area is longer / taper different / front sight different / markings / the frame has straight front strap at the magazine insert area or ?

I have seen a few 30 cal MP AE and interarms logo marked with same external style barrel and front sight like the 9mm P08 style frame

lfid,

You hit the nail on the head with your second paragraph. That's exactly what I meant in my post.

DFM et al, I recently acquired a few new unblued Mauser factory Parabellum 7.65x100mm FAT BARRELS, of the same type used on the M1902 AE & Cartridge Counter Commeratives in 9mmP. These are marked "30 luger" on top and will fit on any MP, but were never an issue item on any of their lugers, so here's your chance to make something unique (a FAT barrel 06/29 Swiss, etc). New barrel only @$125 + $10 S&H or high polished blued and installed on your MP @$250 + $25 insured return S&H. TH

Tom,

These were probably meant for commemoratives that were exported to countries where the
9x19 para was prohibited as it was considered to be a 'military cartridge'.

Nice find. These are rare indeed.

Italy, Malta, Mexico? Several countries do not allow 9mm Pistols for private use

I live in Malta and we allowed to shoot 9x19mm, it is the most popular caliber in Malta.

How about 45 ACP? Were 9x19 banned maybe a few yaers ago? Maybe It was Cyprus.

I've read an article in a gun magazine a few years ago about the "military calibre" ban in some countries, maybe in the late 80s or early 90s, I can't remember

I know we had sports shooters at the club who lived in Belgium (just a few miles away) and had to ask for dispensation by the governor for the use of military calibres like 9x19 and .45 acp.

Italy was certainly one of the countries that Mauser took into account. It also had to do with a close working relationship with Renato Gamba over there.

Fortunately, we do not have any calibre restrictions; even the 45acp is widely used by those who like to hear a big bang when hitting the falling plates.
Occasionally we organize shooting trips to Italy which as you said the 9x19mm is not allowed because it is a Military round, so we shoot mostly with 45 and 357. Some prefer to shoot their rifles, since we do not have a rifle Shooting Range yet, but we are working on it.
