Default Help identifying unit markings

I have a 1916 dated DWM Military Luger with a unit marking I would like to have someone identify. I have some idea what it may be but my references are limited. Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Tom,

Your photo is missing. What are the markings?

Hi Guys,

I don't know what happened to the photo as it was there last night when I downloaded it. What would cause it to disappear overnight? The unit markings are as follows:

179.R.17.

The number 17 is half the size of the rest of the numbers and the letter 'R' is not underlined. I will try to resubmit a new photo tonight.

It was the 14. Saxon Infantry Regiment with station in Leisnig and Wurzen. With its number 179 (there were only 182 Regiments in 1914) it was one of the latest which were founded in 1897.
It was part of the 24. Infantry Division during the Great War and saw action on the Western front (only). It has a great war history!
By the way: It seems that all (and only) Saxon Lugers got unit stamps from 1910 until 1918. There are not many which survived and they are rare.

The hint was, DO NOT post to photobucket on this forum.

They disappear and if looked at by too many folks, then they do not show up.

So plz, next time post here, not there....

Thank you Klaus! I was hoping for a unit with an interesting history. I will enjoy doing further research! I got the Photobucket info on one of the Forums I am a member of and apparently it was not here. Thanks for the heads up Ed.
