Default Interesting video of battlesite dig

You'all have probably seen dozens of these, but I still find them interesting. A guy in Europe is digging up some WWII ordinance. Early on he finds a Luger. He also digs up some other pistols and some HE grenades. Kinda dangerous, because I suspect some of that stuff can still go off if mishandled.

It's not like the populace (the military, at least) aren't aware of it...My avatar is a poster I 'liberated' from a Sicherungstaffel barracks at Lager Lechfeld back in the '80's...Lechfeld was a ME-262 base in WW II and the allies bombed the crap out of it...(It was a Tornado base when I was quartered there - plus the Sicherungstaffel training base)...There was an EOD tech at my AFRES base here who was stationed there after the war...He said the aircraft hangers were underground & serviced by huge elevators that lowered/lifted the jets...He was there a year and said they were still uncovering UXB's when he left...

Apart from that, jerking object from the ground like that isn't 'Archeology'. All aspects, linking the object to the enviroment it is found in, are lost. This is battlefield vandalism at best.

A few months ago we lost a fellow collector who was salvaging a couple of grenades from WW2. They still worked...

Hi Fred, You probably dropped a few UXB's during your career as a Naval Aviator. Best regards, Norm

Sicherheit can be either Security or Safety (my Langenscheidt says)...

sicherheit
im umgang mit waffen und munition

willst du der nachste sein?

merke:
misbrauche munition weder als bastelobjekt noch
als souvenir oder gar als werkzeug, wenn dir augenlicht,
gesunde glieder und dein leben lieb sind!

GOOGLE

security
in dealing with weapons and ammunition

do you want to be next?

notice:
improper use ammunition craft as neither object nor
as a souvenir or even as a tool, if you light eyes,
members healthy and your life is dear!

BABELFISH

security
in handling weapons and ammunition

do you want to be the next?

notice:
ammunition abuses neither as tinkering object nor as souvenir or as tool, if eyesight recovers to you, arranges and live yours are dear!

UXB is Unexploded Bomb (There was an excellent English TV series about their EOD guys called "Danger: UXB")

Well, they are a piece of history. This is no different than archeologists digging up Roman swords. The only difference is that this stuff may go boom!

Here in Central Florida, they found old WWII ordinance used for training on the grounds of an Elementary school. Trust me, they did not make light of that situation.
