Thinking the same thing, I asked the seller the serial # earlier and he just responded. the serial # is "92xx". At least its not a test gun! Definitely an odd bird, though. The nickel implies war trophy, but the faint American Eagle implies US import. I can't help pointing out the lack of etiquette in that the stag grips were omitted from this one! But you know what? It is a nice shooter. Clark

Clark..This is not an Artillery barrel? The sight is just sitting on the barrel and look at the front sight.
I wonder if the barrel has a serial #? Would make a wonderful restoration-shooter project.

It isn't an artillery barrel. It is a commercial barrel of some type or one made up by a gunsmith. The Luger is a long frame, so an artillery barrel wouldn't work, or if one was modified to lengthen the threads there wouldn't be any flange left.
There is also something odd about the extractor and breechblock.

Has both toggle & barrel rear sights...so you don't need bifocals...

Good point. I need to develop a better eye for detail quickly! Clark

I have been looking at this gun for weeks on Gun Broker. It used to have some crazy reserve. Now the reserve is getting close to reality. Might be a fun shooter. Bob

Bob:
I agree. In all seriousness I should never knock or trash talk any Luger, except maybe a price. This one just shocked me because it is part early-1900! I regret selling my favorite shooter, which was a S/42 DDR rework with a 6 inch barrel. Still can't figure out why I let it go. Clark

These long barrels with the sweated-on arty sight base show up fairly often on GB (unplated)...in both Luger calibers...I linked to an auction with one for sale for $150 (IIRC) a few months ago...

The sight base on this barrel is extraordinarily high.
