...Uh...This pic raises some Red Flags...
'Crown' does not even resemble a crown; N is obviously backwards... It's a bad fake...Why anyone would even bother is a mystery...

Me, too...but after a year or so of watching the real experts pick fakes apart, I've learned a thing or two...
...Plus I have a real commercial Luger in front of me...Can't take a real good pic of the C/N on mine... There's other obvious flaws, too...but I'll let someone who knows exactly what point them out... Edit: this is the best pic I can get of mine...

I'm sure the '5' font is wrong, too...plus there's no proof on the barrel; and if it's a commercial, it can't very well be 9mm, can it??? ...But I agree; It's a test Luger...in so many ways...

Check out the Cyrillic alphabet. The "5" with its little ball terminus is also a bit like an Eastern European style. It could be totally bogus or it might be an Eastern European rework of some sort.

Interesting idea, The "Germany" import stamp right over the chamber would indicate, however, that it was exported at some point. Could this gun have possibly ended up in Eastern Europe as a rework?

OK, it's legitimate, and I'm wrong...So, what's the answer to the OP's question "is it comm or mil. is it a 1908 test/accep model?" ??? (I think we can all agree that it is a rework...of one kind or another) [Edited by postino, who is no expert on anything, and may well be an idiot]

[QUOTE=postino;196518]...And the 'crown' that looks like a bunch of bananas???...
Maybe it's the "Banana Republic" variation. |

Well, I dunno....if you're not looking for a correct collectable, it looks in pretty nice shape...if you could get it for 600-700 bucks it would probably be a fun shooter

I'd buy it if the price is right, ie. is it priced as a shooter or as a special, valuable collector item? I don't know what to make of those numbers, as the metal work beneath the bluing appears original to me as far as the degree of polish pre-bluing. The edges are sharp and the front of the frame is certainly flat.
Anyway, if it is priced as a shooter who cares? dju |

The "GERMANY" stamping appears to be beneath the bluing... reblue?
It has a stock lug...'08 test? "GERMANY" stamp was replaced by "MADE IN GERMANY" in the twenties...East German rework? The Proof has a poor attempt at a crown and is backward...Stamped from the inside? |

Well said, Ron. My money is on this being the third and final specimen in the elusive DWM series of Russian contract prototypes, bearing the echt Cyrillic code Й. It remains to complete the most common inscription in the Russian language by locating pistols marked with Х and У.

Maybe about $300 high for a shooter...in 2011...this time next year, we may be saying a grand is a reasonable price...for a shooter...
