Default another 1st luger.

Ive always wanted one since watching WWII movies growing up. Finally one showed up local for a price I decided was worth it to me. Its a dwm 1918, the sideplate and release doesnt match, no numbers on the magazine. havent taken the grips off yet. Its been reblued, but I wanted a shooter and decent looking at that.
Im sure other collectors that gets around alot of lugers probably pick them up cheaper or maybe even sells them cheaper? But I paid $675 for it with 2 magazines. I wished I could have said I paid less, but these things dont come up for sale locally very often. Interesting story, the gentleman I bought it from was at a local gun show looking for a luger, he said like alot of gun shows the ones for sale were overpriced or at least priced higher than he wanted to pay. As he was looking a older gentleman starts telling the vendor he brought a luger to see what the vendor would pay. The gentleman I bought it from heard he wanted around 600 bucks for the gun, the vendor started in on the reblue, non match etc. so the guy I bought it from just turned around and paid the asking price and left the vendor stunned. jim

Looks like a good shooter. Price was alright, many shooters are higher. Congratulations and welcome to the Forum and the addictive world of luger collecting. Bill

I don't understand. Did you say the dealer was negotiating a price with the seller, when the other gentleman bought it out from under the dealer while negotiations were going on between the seller and the dealer? Can you explain what happened more clearly?

Nice Shooter... I am sure the accuracy of such an old gun will surprise you as it has many on this forum... even a Luger with a rusty pipe looking bore shoots well in my experience.. Welcome to the Lugerforum.

from what the guy was telling me. He was looking at a vendors table at a gun show. He said the prices were well above what he wanted to pay for a shooter type pistol. A older gentleman brings out this luger and gets into the conversation about selling it and wondered if the vendor was interested in paying X number of dollars for it. The vendor started the guns been reblued, not numbers matching, mags dont match. Basically he was trying to get a better deal or to put it bluntly he was trying to low ball the guy. So the guy turns and says I'll pay your asking price. Flipped out the cash and walked away with it.
Basically whats the vendor to do? After knocking the gun for everything thats wrong with it. The guy I bought it from didnt tell me the exact price he paid for the gun, but did say it was less than what he sold it to me for. He bought it always wanting one. Took it to the range, etc and decided after a few years to thin the collection and this was one of the things he was selling. jim

nice looking gun! just got myself a shooter in similar condition with only 1 mag and paid $650, so don't feel too bad about the price. the most important thing is that you enjoy your new gun!

Well, it sounds like the vendor talked himself out of the gun. However, it is customary to wait until the seller moves away from the table before jumping in. Anyway, it's no reflection on you, so enjoy your Luger!

I know what you mean, 2 months after I buy this one, theres a number matching original 1912 for 950 bucks. I really thought hard on that one. But the money tree in the back yard shriveled up and died so I just couldnt justify it to myself. Im in the process of building a old chevy nova right now and its hard having 2 expensive hobbies. jim
