Spanish Treasure Off Our Florida Coast
In 1715 a Treasure laden group of Spanish ship were heading up our coast when stuck by a massive hurricane. Nine were pushed in shallow water and broke up on the reef. Thus refered to as the Treasure Coast. For more then 40 years pieces of escuidos (gold) and reales (silver) has been giving up its treasures. One of my client gave my one of the best silver pieces of eight to help him out of trouble. The other, the real is an eight but is unique as it has a counter stamp little round impression fully dated 1690 and even more rare is it got circulated with a large crack that should have melted down. The assayer the doughnut with the dot. The gold 2 esquido if fully dated 1596 and as it was minted in Seville and came off a wreck, it belonged to a passenger. I wish I could scour our beaches but those days are over my stroke of luck 12 year ago. Eric
