After some help on another forum thread, I have doen some research on the unit markings. I came across this website of german MG units (in german).
http://www.weltkriegsopfer.de/Verlus...eilen_113.html as you can see there is only one possibility. http://www.weltkriegsopfer.de/Inform...s_0_18511.html Before I found the above website, these unit numbers kept bringing up the Alpine Corps and those numbers did jive...somewhat. 1. MG. 21. A. ..........but there is no Ss after the MG but still it's the closest I've found so far. Anyone have any other suggestions? Ed |

Have a 1915 DWM, sn 5622c, unit marked 1.M.G.21. A. which signifies (my best estimate) 1.Machinengewehr-Kompagnie, 21 Armeekorps. See page 267 Central Powers Pistols. Also have another 1915 DWM, sn 3220c, unit marked 1.M.G.21. A. (lined out) which signifies (my best estimate) 1.Machinengewehr-Kompagnie, 21 Armeekorps. This unit mark is replaced with JR.60.MGK. Infanterie Regiment 60 Machinengewehr-Kompagnie. For my data base, what is the serial number of your Luger? Jan |

I'm a numbers guy and that double number deal is a little difficult to comprehend. Man, what are the chances of one person getting that double up???

The double (identical) unit mark "1.M.G.21.A." lacks a weapons number and therefore is not a duplication of a complete unit stamp. This is not common but happens. The 1.M.G.21.A. is also identified as 1.Machinengewehr-Kompagnie, Ausbildungskommando?, 21 Armeekorps. Perhaps some of the unit markings experts on this forum can clear this up. Also, a similar unit stamp: M.G.A.1.53. has been identified as Machinengewehr-Abteilung Nr. 1, weapon No 53, in official markings regulations. NoncomRetired Thanks for the details of your M.G. unit marked Lugers. Jan Last edited by Jan C Still; 12-16-2012 at 04:25 AM. |

Also looked into my new book the unit marking 1.M.G.21.A. and I found it exactly as you said but (Scharfschutzen) is added after Machinengewehr. Shame we don't have a weapon's number.
