New member with questions

Through some unfortunate events I have inherited a small gun collection, but being a newbie to collectible firearms as you can imagine I have some questions.

Could someone please give me some insight on this 1914 ERFURT Luger.

You have a 1914 (year) artillery luger, made by Erfurt arsenal

There were about 25,000 artillerys made by Erfurt, that was the only year.

The magazine is a later, WW2 era most likely, as aluminum were used after 1926

Looks like a very nice original old warhorse that could use a good cleaning. Sorry about the unfortunate circumstances, but a nice gun indeed!

It is very difficult to tell much due to poor quality of the pictures. The finish does not appear to be the correct rust blue. Based on what I can see, there is no orginal finish left on it, but it looks like it has been painted black? You should take some more pictures in natural outdoor light and post them.

Yes, it is just the lighting. I will try to take some pics outside tomorrow. I think any finish has pretty much worn off. Would you recommend getting it restored or is it more valuable if I leave it original?

I think almost everyone would agree.....clean it up and do not refinish it. Refinishing Lugers almost always depreciates their value.
