Did we send aid......
to England and France too for war orphans in 1915? If the US did not, we sure shot ourselves in the foot. I doubt if the Hun took any aid sent from the US into consideration a bit later on the battlefield.

I guess this might be not an "official" (i.e. governmental) initiative, but rather a fund raising promoted by German immigrants (or their descendents) already living in US.

You're probably correct. We were trying to stay out of the war at that time, or so our government was declaring at that time. The Lusitania was sunk during May 1915 and I doubt if our government would be paying homage to german widows and orphans for their loss on the battlefield.
