Is This a Police Holster

I purchase a Luger in the 60's from a WWII vet and it came with a nice brown holster. I read recently that military holsters were black and police holsters were brown is this correct. Attached are some pictures of this holster. Stamped on the back is the name Carl Ackva, below that 1939 and below that WaA286. I am giving it to my son and would like an idea of it's value as I see them on auction site with quite a range of prices.

no, it is likely army

some people will say that brown holsters were luftwaffe because the army did have a rule that holsters were to be dyded black, but I see so many that I doubt all are luftwaffe

Police came in brown or black, black usually city police and others and rural were brown

brown is particularly sought after by many folks / ensure you show the inside to show it has not been cut down, etc.

Worth $200-$275 among collectors, dealers will ask a lot more - your tool, it depends on how it is marked, blank, about $40-$50 / marked $75-$125 IMO

Generally, Police holsters have a stud and strap closure.

Police holsters were black for Schutzpolizei and brown for Landjaegerei. Police holsters had "up-straps" with a stud for closure.

WWII military holsters were either brown or black. All Eagle/2 Luftwaffe holsters I have ever seen were black.

Yep, most likely an Army holster. Yours is very nice. If you ever decide to sell, I have two 1939 Lugers looking for a holster like that.

Thanks to all for the info. The holster is not cut down, the pistol fit well. The tool has a small marking on the front just below the hole. It is an Eagle with folded wings as opposed to the Eagle with spread wing above WaA on the back of the holster. Under the Eagle on the tool are two numbers I can't make out the first on the second number is 3. I will post some picture but the tool mark is so small I need a glass to view it.

Most likely, the first digit you can't read on the Waffenamt stamp on the loading tool is a 6.

Hi,
I bought two 1939 Lugers in the 60's and each came with a holster and tool. Neither appear cut down, while the brown holster show very little wear you will see that the black one has quite a bit. The tool in the black holster has no markings, the brown holster does.

The black holster saw field use. Maybe even combat. That is a plus for me, even if in my own mind.

Yes, the black one is still in nice shape even though the finish shows some wear. Both are very nice holsters.
