RIA Regional Auction Catalog is up...
It has this lot http://www.rockislandauction.com/vie.../1025/lid/2601 A new one on me, but I was born yesterday. Anyone know anything about this contraption? I wish they had more pics.

Dave didn't put a date in his thread title [ ] so I don't know if this is the same auction, but I got the June 26/27/28 2015 Regional Auction catalog about a week ago...340 pages...B&W...
Nothing I can't live without in this auction... But what is odd is that I got an email from a RIAC 'Customer Service Representative' on the 11th 'reminding me' about the auction and that they sent me a catalog... The really odd part is the "CONFIDENTIALITY NOTICE" at the end of the email...Saying that everything contained within was "protected by and subject to the attorney-client privilege or be privileged work product or proprietary information." Uh, I didn't appoint RIAC as my representative or agree to any secrecy clause...And there's nothing in the email that isn't on the RIAC site... Anybody else get this BS email??? Seems counter productive...Telling prospective bidders to NOT tell anyone else about the RIAC auction... And that's all it is...Just a reminder about the auction...

They started calling me and leaving voice mail, which I didn't exactly request. I did sign-up and placed a few bids on their last auction, but I hated their whole auction process and I wasn't going to pay for a proxy. Won't bother again and the mark-up's were horrible. I've only had two email reminders, but they were both very generic.

I've had them leave messages on my answering machine; no problem. Just reminders about upcoming auctions.
This email is the first time I've been warned not to discuss it... I sent an email to RIAC asking if this guy (he left a name) works there or if it's phishing...

I get the catalog for free and they usually make a call to follow up and remind me. They have my email, but seem to like the personal touch for my follow ups. I don't mind and like the free catalog for review. |

I went directly to the RIAC main site, signed in, and left a msg on the "instant chat" section...Asking if the email from the Customer Service Rep was phishing or actual...And about the "Confidentiality Notice"...I got this response [in part] -
Mr. [sheepherder], Thank you for your email. RIAC Customer Service Representative [omitted] does work with Rock Island Auction Company. The confidentiality notice is present as this email was sent as a personal transmission to you directly. It was not sent as a mass email reminder of the upcoming auction, but a personal email to remind you about the upcoming sale. As you are the intended recipient feel free to pass along the information of our upcoming sale to any friends, relatives, or neighbors you think may be interested. If I can further address your concerns or be of any additional assistance please do not hesitate to let me know. Sincerely, [ommitted] Customer Service Team Lead | Rock Island Auction Company The email from the "Team Lead" also contains the "Confidentiality Notice"...

Ian has some special interest on some special items, and posted excellent reviews on youtube.com. If interested, here are a few videos:
Pakistan handmade Ruby type https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5S_qmBL_KM Chinese handmade Browning type https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtFPgu82f1c There are many more. It's interesting to notice all handmade were blowback type. I believe that's still the situation today. From news, police captured handmade pistols here and there, destroyed one in-home gun making facility after another. On display, all were blowback. No complex ones. |

Another phone call yesterday. Maybe they're desperate. Pickings seem pretty slim in this one to me.

Quite a few pistols are attractive in this RIAC session. I like these. Chairman Mao's first wife was killed by nationalist militia using one of these type in 1930. Was it this particular one? God knows. Chance is very very slim, but exists Of course, guns relatively common without provenance record in this shape must be cheap to be attractive.

Not too many Lugers this time, but a number of the lots included two or more guns and they appear to be priced lower than the last auction.

"Teasers"...The suggested prices bear no relation to reality...

Won nothing yesterday. Current collecting method is like performing a guerrilla warfare: hit and run. But... most time, only run around, could not hit anything... anyway, keep me busy.

I got an email from RIAC Sunday night saying I had won on day 3. I bid through their site, not Proxibid. I was unable to pull up anything on my account there about it. Then I got another email saying there had been a mix-up with mailing lists. I asked what was up, they responded that I had won nothing. Dingwads.

RIAC is well known, they have so many bidders nowadays. While watching real-time video today, I heard winning bidder number above 2000 !! That does not count those bidders on internet (for example, all bidders from proxibid.com shares a single bidder number: 99. Probably actual number of active internet bidders are a few hundred). It's very hard to "steal" anything from them these days. At least, not for short-term playing. All won items must be long term.
