Default Ex-Student kills 18 in Erfurt

A 19 year old former student returned to the Gutenberg-Gymnasium in Erfurt today, and with a pistol and pump-action shotgun killed two students, one policeman and fourteen school officials before committing suicide. Both the ARD and NDR report he had a weaponsâ?? permit and was a member of a local shooting club.

After feeling sad for the dead, one must wonder what new rules will be necessary to protect Germans from gunowners. It will be interesting to see if the killer really had the permit and membership claimed on the news.

No law will protect the public from a psychopathic nut. I just hope shooters, hunters and collectors in Germany are not made the scapegoats as happened in Great Britain.

If more of the teachers were armed they would still be alive! Thor

A sad day for all who lost their lives and their families...One is at a loss for words when these things are perpetrated. Man's inhumanity and anger generated by what? Overpopulation? TV? music? Immaturity, or a failure of our education systems? What would cause a young man to throw away his life for what amounts to less than nothing? And to commit murder? I have a degree in Psychology and with that and fifty cents or a dollar in some places can buy a cup of coffee but for the life of me I cannot understand how these children come up with this solution to their problems. What we have the priveledge of seeing is the breakdown of a once great society. This Gentlemen, will not bode well for the rest of us who are collectors of firearms. You will notice that it is mostly young teenagers who are doing these murderous acts and changing our lives forever. Simply more ammo for the anti-gunner croud...Jerry Burney

The new law was concerning tougher restrictions for the ownership of airguns. This was rediculous.

Is this the same Erfurt where the Lugers were made?
