Default 90 grain FMJ bullet

Has anyone loaded Hornady's 90 grain FMJ bullet in 9mm reloads? I also reload 380 auto and sice the diameter is the same is why I ask. I have a butt load of these 90 grains. I was thinking 3.7 grains of Bullseye may be OK?

Problem is COL (Cartridge Overall Length)
That bullet is tiny and has nothing (0.02") sitting in the case when loaded to proper COL 1.169"
The Luger feeding system is like the 1911, it is designed to a fixed COL and a round nosed bullet. Stray from that path and you might be in trouble.

Seated to COL 1.14" there is but 0.06" down the case and that is simply not enough.

If you try this then something like 4.8gr Bullseye is sufficient for a COL of 1" with a seating deapth of .189". If you get it to feed then shoot some film, we are many who want to see that ;-)

Here are the dimensions like Georg Luger intended them:

I doubt they would function the action reliably, even if they would feed.
Would make your luger a single loader, single shot plinker - I would think.

Just shoot your .380 more!

Hi,

Sorry, but not quite for Luger shooting!

Please note that steel case ammo was not intended for pistol shooting by the Germans during WWII.

Your excellent original German source is dated from 1940, 32 years after German Army adoption of the Luger.

Confusing, I know, especially to non German speakers.
