1900 American Eagle
There is an ad on Gunbroker, item #754671438, that is described as a 1900 AE luger. Looking at the photos I see that the toggle knobs are not concave, no indication of a toggle lock. I have sent questions to the seller, but he himhaws around with his answers. I wanted to see a photo of the mainspring and he didn't know if it was a flat or coiled spring. I am sure this is a fraudulent ad. What is your opinion? Just wanted to let you people know about this seller. No, I'm not bidding on it!

I would not call it "fraudulent", that implies intent; it is simply "wrong".
The seller does not have any idea what he has, except it is a luger and if like everyone else- "it must be worth a lot". Probably using fawlty logic; all 1900 lugers have grip safeties, ergo this is a 1900 luger.

No need for additional photos. It is a 1906 American Eagle...you can tell from the ad and the serial number is waay too high for a 1900. Not sure if the ad is fraudulent or if the seller is just ignorant.

The seller finally admitted that he posted the wrong date in his ad. He concedes it is a 1906.

He has pictures that he either took it to a gun show or bought it there. My guess is that he picked it up cheaper and thinks he can double his money Ed |

I am trying to understand why, if not going after it, you are so worried about correcting this seller? Anyone who is plunking down money should have an idea what they are putting it down on. Seems to me that he is just trying to sell a luger, and is a bit confused in what exactly it is, no more, no less. John

Well, there are 2 bids for a 1900 AE luger which these bidders obviously have not done their homework. The seller still has not corrected the ad to 1906. So, someone is going to be P O'd when he finds the truth. I know I would be appreciative of someone correcting a wrong ad. That's all!

person bid 6 times to hit the reserve. The only bidder. He knew what he was getting. At 2200,win, he did not get hosed. At a quick glance, he got a nice honest pistol, be it a 1906 30 cal Eagle. What if the seller had an 02, THAT would have made it intresting, as bidders would have been P.O,d if someone out of the blue and not bidding told the seller of a mis-discription. The information is out there for the seller to find, as well as buyer. I hope you see my point here. John

Though it is permitted here, personally I don't think we need to talk about auctions; if you're bidding or want to and have a question ok- but just throwing stuff against the wall and calling the dealer a fraud ? Not cool.
The seller obviously doesn't know or care, the buyer should know better, and you have no dog in the fight. You can't save everyone or maybe even anyone from being ignorant or catching auction fever. JMHO. And maybe he had a reason- like having another '06 and this one would give him a consecutive numbered pair!
