Nazi cigarette case?
Hey everyone,
I'm currently in Germany, so of course I had to peruse the local flee markets for some GDR (DRR) items and other possible nazi artifacts. I came across this cigarette case in Leipzig, and bought it for 50 euros. I bought it knowing it could be fake, and willing to lose out on the cash if I did. I googled it and couldn't find anything that looked similar, so I'm not sure if this is a fake or someone's personal case they decked out themselves. Any input is greatly appreciated! |

Looks pretty old to me, besides who would go to all the trouble and expense of making something with a very limited market?

Hi James,
I don’t know much about Nazi memorabilia but I have some knowledge of vintage cigarette cases. Yours, including the embellishment, looks authentic to me. Norm |

I agree on the originality. If someone was going to fake something like that I doubt if the RLB insignia would be used. I'd be happy with that find.

The funny thing about vintage cigarette cases is that, even if you smoke, today's cigarettes are too long to fit. The people who buy them now use them for business cards.

The gentleman in the link I provided could tell you if it is authentic and give you an estimated value. He specializes in all sorts of WW2 German artifacts as well as cigarette cases. Best regards!

Last time I was at a flea market, there was a vendor selling old unopened packs of Camels & Lucky Strike (and others) for $35 a pack. I was almost tempted to buy a pack...Almost...

Looks original to me. The wear marks and details of texture, not necessary for a repro. Interestingly it does not have the traditional eagle and wreath usually found with the swastika, as noted in the inside stamp and the 'flower' around the swastika. There is also metal detecting and digging around the old battlefields - see Youtube. So some of this is showing up in German - Baltic - Russian flea markets and even Luger parts from relics that have been cleaned up.
