DWM 1914 L P08 - just arrived
I received my early Christmas, late birthday, and probably next year present this week- an elusive 1914 dated DWM L P08 or Artillery luger.
Not many of few of these produced by DWM in 1914 have survived: of the maybe 750-1500 made, only some three dozen are known, the rest lost to the attrition of two world wars, conversion to 4" and police modified pistols and the passing of some 104 years. This example , serial 869, has seen its own trial, the side plate is replaced and not numbered, and the grips are not matching. The original numbered magazines are long gone, but it has a nice DWM mag present. The standard 4" P 08 and the L Po8 were numbered in same serial range in 1914, from 1 to about 8400c. L P08 are known from serial number 38 to 1612. 1914 L P08 examples observed all have the three crown/S acceptance/proof markings on the right chamber. If anyone has a 1914 DWM L P08 they want to "show", please feel free to add it here; but no "Erfurts" please, lets keep it clean.

Thanks Doug.
A sad update though, George's "69" side plate turned out to be a "59"- though in the dark it looked a lot like a "69". So if anyone has or spots a real "69" please let me know.

Don, I'll take pictures of my 1914 Artillery if you will post them. If you will post, do you want me to show all areas with the last two numbers? I also have snail drum whose serial number starts with 677 xx but was told by Jerry (on this site) years ago that my Artillery precedes snail drums. The shoulder stock is also serial numbered but not even close to 677.
