Default Grip repair

Giving a shout out to Jim Solomon. He repaired my grips on my 1938 luger. I am amazed at the quality of his work.

You can contact Jim by email at:

dent2 at frontiernet.net

He does great work.
He also will make grips from scratch, he made these "baby" luger grips for me.
First set I had him make, had the border; second is all checkered. The second set looks "yellow" on the pistol picts, but they are a nice walnut as seen in the picture with just the grips. I decided I like the full checkering better, the border was just too "busy" for the smaller grip.

Jim's work is superb, a testament to the high level of craftsmanship that is being preserved by a select few of the members of the Luger collecting fraternity. I don't want to hijack the thread since it is about Jim and his work but I do want to show an example of bordered grips that are even "more busy", but I like them. I had them made many years ago for a baby that I still have not completed.

The competition target (I assume?) hexagonal barrel on Lugers still makes me cringe a little every time I see them. Not sure why but they just don’t look right, like a revolver grip on a C-96

That said, the grips do look excellent.

HK,
the barrei is not hexagonal. It starts out round, with a light flat cut on top, and cuts on each side that result in the "slab" side barrel.
Three more views to give the shape of the barrel.

It doesn't look "normal", but then neither does a really short barrel on a baby. The heavier barrel does help with the reliability of the short 9mm barrel; and allows the .30 cal upper to exchange with the 9mm without a mainspring change.

And for sure, Jim does nice work on grips.
He just re-cut a couple pairs of worn out Colt Woodsman grips for me- they look new!

Jim has refurbished a pair of Luger grips for me as well. He did a superb job and REALLY stands behind/cares about his work!!!

Would ABSOLUTELY recommend him for grip repair.

Thumbs up

Jim Solomon aka Jim "the grip magician and cool tool man". Buy his main spring tool; use less cuss words when changing the main spring. 😊
