Supposedly taken in France. The camera man at least had faith in their abilities |

Interesting lot - all enlisted or officer candidates ?
The age range is very telling. Their casual style seems very un-military. I also wondered if they might have been conscripted late in the war. |

I have actually seen many, many photos of all kinds of GI's to include many German soldiers screwing around, aiming guns at each other. Things were different then.
I for one never, heard anything but don't aim at anything you aren't going to shoot to shoot, keep your finger off the trigger till ready to fire, etc. That didn't keep us from having our fingers on the trigger when going into action or hunting. It is the last 20-25 yrs where that has gone mainstream and every motherless-cur yells, my gawwwd TRIGGER CONTROL on-line. Holy smokes... |

"Un-Military" Only someone who never bothered to serve could make a comment like that.
Dirty truth is we did not stand around at attention at all times. Looks like a bunch of early war privates fooling around like all young GIs have done since Christ was a corporal. |

Why take cheap shots at a fellow forum member? What is gained by this?

Did they not have some wind up auto shutter back then? Perhaps there was no camera man.

When conscription was reintroduced, it was encouraged to send some 'fun' photos back home. It both helped the conscripts to bond as a group and to show those back home it was all not that bad.
In fact, we still continued this tradition over here when I did my military service in 1990. My photos are worse I have been picking up these 'fun photos' for several years now. Intention is to do a photo book on them some time. Here are some other guys who dislike photographers. |

Back then, you might have been a "conscripted" photographer that really didn't have a choice, and probably would NOT have taken issue with a bunch of Nazis aiming pistols at you.
