What I can't figure out is
why my S/42 Luger will fire 25 rounds flawlessly one week and jam on every third round the next. Same box of ammo, same range, same temperture. This has been my "go to" Luger that until today has been a positive example of reliability. Embarressing and frustrating. Anybody offering a cure will be appreciated. Dirt is not a problem as this is a well cared for pampered Luger. Thanks

Re: What I have experienced
Bob;
I have a byf 42 that shoots flawlessly. I have to date put approximately 1000 rounds through it over the past two years. I shoot primarily bullseye target and therefore do not do a lot of rapid fire, so I can't speak for what affect extensive heating might have. The only time I have experienced a jam has been due to my underloading the cartridge. I have been experimenting with finding the lowest charge I can use reliably and to date, I cannot load less than 4.3 grains of Bullseye without some jams. I don't know if this is of any help or not, but I offer up my experiences for whatever they are worth. |

Re: Same Magazine, Too..???
I have two mags and usually load both with 5 rounds at the range. Our club rules only allow 5 in the mag so this way I spend less time between rounds loading.

Re: What I have experienced
Let me add the following. I have been told to use minimal lubrication on the moving parts by most of the P.08 shooter I know. Unlike the 1911, it doesn't seem to like libral amounts of lube. Could this be a factor affecting you?
I have also noted on some P.08 that if the mag clip is not staying fully seated, it can be a problem. Regards; |

You may be on to something here. I always shoot two handed!

Re: What I can't figure out is
Yes, that will do it. It's not really a weak grip that will cause the malfunctions, it's a weak wrist.
The pistol is operating on recoil. If you fail to provide a sturdy and consistent "platform" for the pistol to recoil against any pistol can malfunction. Try hard to keep the muzzle from rising as much as you can when firing and see if that helps. Mike |

Re: What I can't figure out is
9 times out of ten, Luger problems are caused my the magazine. If you use two, it might be just one of them that causes the problem. Compare the top rim of both magazines, the comparative strength of the magazine springs. Maybe this will help to find the cause of the problem. Patrick

Thanks guys - The small print is
I always shoot factory ammo usually Remington and Winchester, occasionally PMC. I also shoot two handed, including my Rugers, CZ-52, and Makarov, all of which cause zero problems. I once experimented with swapping mags between my DWM and S/42 with inconclusive results. This weekend I will install a complete new spring kit in the S42 and see if this helps. I know Lugers can be spastic, but until now, this one had been quite reliable, really surprised me when I could not get three consecutive rounds off without a jam. Thanks - Bob
