quote:
...the gun apears to be in almost new condition, 99+% Blue

Hard for me to believe that it has not been restored. It is a very nice gun, but the dutch guns I have seen have universally had a lot of wear with few exceptions.
Also, look at the toggle with the Vickers LTD, the proof / acceptance is pretty smeared looking, could be the picture, could be the refinish that I bet occured at some point. Value would depend on the reserve? Ed

C'mon guys, you know it is refinished. Look at the evidence of rust pits in the frame where the "million dollar chip" is missing from the left grip, the uneven border around the rear frame ramp, and the total lack of wear on any of the blue but having a rubbed place in the straw of the thumb safety. The seller does not claim 98+% ORIGINAL blue, because it isn't. I seriously doubt that this finish even dates from the 1933 rework. A Vickers is great to find in any condition, and this one is very nice, but it is not represented as original and even though it looks mint it should fetch nowhere near the price of a 98% original finish example.

To me it appears correct for the arsnel refinished model, the matte finish is correct for that model. The one thing that I noticed is the lack of the dutch acceptance stamping which should be apparent on the left side of the reciever. Sure is a nice looking one, most Vickers look like they were drug behind a truck in rusty gravel.

sorry Ron, thought I was being helpful by pointing out that it had been refinished.

Nothin' to be sorry about, you were right in my opinion. I was just being a bit more positive in my observation that it was refinished. Herb does have a point that it appears to be the correct matte finish, but I am not sure that it was applied as far back as 1933.

Sometimes I stretch, as I get out of my limited knowledge!
And I wouldn't mind owning this dutchie, it is a nice one, but I thought maybe too nice for a period arsenal refinish? Ed

Anyone have a guess as to the unit markings on the brass side plate ? (Sorry, I am away from the books...)
Think they read as " RI 2T. h.w. 68 "... I too noticed the slight evidence of the Crown/W stamping on the left side of the receiver, ahead of the side plate. Photo may be bad...but it appears to show not much remaining of the stamp. I did like the remenants of fire-blue remaining on the sear bar, toggle pin, and front sight blade...nice touches for a restored piece. Regards, Pete... |
